by Ooh Chhori 20 Oct 2023
Navratri is one of the most popular and vibrant festivals in India. It is a nine-day festival that celebrates the nine forms of the Hindu goddess Devi. Navratri is celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm across the country, but it is especially popular in the state of Gujarat.
Navratri celebrations in Gujarat begin on the first day of the Hindu month of Ashwin. The festival is divided into three parts: Sharad Navratri, which is the first nine days of the festival; Maha Navratri, which is the middle nine days of the festival; and Durga Puja, which is the last five days of the festival.

During the first nine days of Navratri, people worship the nine forms of Devi. These nine forms are: Shailputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri, and Siddhidatri.

On the tenth day of Navratri, people celebrate Dasara, which is the victory of good over evil. Dasara is also the day when people perform the ritual of burning the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, and Meghnad.
Navratri is celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm across India. However, the celebrations vary from region to region.

In North India, Navratri is also known as Durga Puja. Durga Puja is celebrated with great pomp and grandeur in West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, and Tripura. During Durga Puja, people build large pandals and install idols of Devi Durga. The pandals are decorated with flowers, lights, and other ornaments.

In South India, Navratri is also known as Golu. During Golu, people display a variety of dolls and figurines in their homes. The dolls and figurines depict scenes from Hindu mythology and culture.
Navratri is a time for celebration and devotion. It is a time to come together with family and friends and to celebrate the divine feminine. Jewellery plays an important role in Navratri celebrations. Jewellery is seen as a symbol of auspiciousness and prosperity. It is also believed that wearing jewellery during Navratri pleases the goddess Devi.
